Add flaxseeds and bring the heat to medium-low, simmering for 20 minutes.
Strain flaxseeds using a fine mesh strainer over a liquid measuring cup.
Pour the gel into a mason jar and add vitamin E, stirring well.
Store in the fridge for 1 - 2 weeks.
How To Use Flax Gel (Pre-Wash Treatment)
Apply flax gel generously to dry hair from roots to tips.
Wrap hair with a towel or cover with a shower cap to prevent dripping.
Leave the flax gel on for 15-30 minutes (or longer if desired).
Wash hair with shampoo and condition as usual.
- Storage: store gel in the refrigerator for 1–2 weeks. If the gel develops a sour smell or changes texture, it’s best to discard it and make a fresh batch.
- Strain Hot: it's best to strain the flaxseeds from the gel while it's still hot to avoid clumping.
- Patch Test: test a small amount on the skin first if you have a sensitive scalp.
- Hair Texture: Flaxseed gel is an effective treatment for all hair types, but especially beneficial for wavy and curly hair, as it enhances natural texture and reduces frizz.
